New Software Makes 3D Models from Photographs

(Wired) A new software called 3-Sweep allows for fast prototyping of complex 3D models from simple photos. This could help 3D printing enthusiasts create models significantly faster than currently existing more traditional methods. What’s remarkable about the software is that it not only creates the 3D model, it also applies textures taken from the photograph which can be a plus when 3D printing in color. The software was created by a team of researchers at Tel Aviv University.
