Taiwan Research Group Says Global 3D Printer Market to Grow to 100,000 in 2014

(Taiwan News) The worldwide 3D printer market is expected to grow to 100,000 unts in 2014 and to expand rapidly over the next four years, according to Taiwan Industrial Economics and Knowledge Research Center (IEK). The global 3D printer market will rise to some 6 million units by 2018 according to the prepared statement from IEK. Tung Chung-ming, an administrator at the IEK, expressed confidence toward the market, saying that the 3D printing technology is complementary to traditional manufacturing. Printing materials have progressed from plastic and gypsum to carbon fiber and metal over the past three decades, and the devices will be able to use compound materials within the next three to five years, Tung predicted.
